Annelies Slabbynck was born in 1968 in Belgium . Her first introduction with ceramics was when she was 17 years old at the Academy of Fine Arts in Aalst , 
Belgium .During the next 2 years she studied Ornamental Arts and Design and later 
she continued her art studies at the Higher Institute for Visual Arts,  Sint Lucas in 
Ghent , Belgium , specialising in ceramics. After graduating from the Higher Institute
she also followed continuous part-time ceramic classes at the Municipal Academy 
of Visual Arts, Ghent until she moved to China in 1999.  Her first introduction to 
China was in 1997 where she stayed one term at the Central Academy of Arts and
Design in Beijing . In 1999 she returned to China to study Chinese language at the
Beijing Foreign Studies University and later moved to Shanghai.
